Management Personal Statement
I am an ambitious student ready to take any challenge presented and feel that this course in Hospitality and International Tourism management is perfect for me. The course offers me a chance to study further the areas that I am interested in. I have a strong desire to learn, broaden, and to sharpen my thinking and learning skills. I fully understand how challenging my chosen course will be, as Hospitality and Tourism is an industry that never stays the same because it is forever diversifying and changing.
What first inspired me to take this path was when I took as job as a kitchen assistant in a fine food, French restaurant. This was an eye-opening and inspiring experience. After 4 months I was promoted to Commis chef. I have also worked as a Sous Chef in an Italian Café, where my responsibilities including assisting the head chef, preparation and serving foods, making sure the kitchen was clean and tidy.
In addition, I had vast experience as sous chef because in the absence of head chef I had to look after everything including training and looking after the new staff. I also had to take control over the services including ordering ingredients from different companies, stock taking. I had to interview future candidates and help with the preparation of new menus and ideas. My experience of this led me to desire an overall knowledge of this industry.
I have also had vast experience working on the Welcome to Excellence, England Tourist Board’s quality customer service for tourism industry. I am also a First aid appointed person and have had experience working with St John’s ambulance first aid at work. I have endeavoured to undertake qualifications in customer service and health and safety, which have helped to improve my skills. My Level 2 award in Health and safety in the workplace and Level 2 food safety in catering shows my dedication to this field and how serious I am about proceeding.
I was made captain of my class, responsible for maintaining content in the classroom. This allowed me to gain experience in leadership and encouraged my responsible side where I became more disciplined, hardworking, punctual and confident as a result. Being class captain has taught me a lot about responsibility. In classes I have learnt how to lead a team and how to work well in teams and with individuals. In my spare time, I enjoy painting. I have participated in an Inter school painting competition where my painting was selected for a prize. I also enjoy myself in handicraft works, reading and travelling to new places.
I am a thoughtful and motivated individual and am prepared to work hard if I believe in something. In Nepal, I was heavily involved in voluntary work such as raising funds for victims of natural disasters and organizing health camps for the elderly at my religious institute. Furthermore I have participated in school campaigns to help protect the environment and protesting against deforestations. These experiences have improved my skills and knowledge as part of a team and also helped me to develop my confidence as well as giving me satisfaction for helping my community.
My aim is to gain more knowledge and experience about hospitality. I feel that this can lead to a variety of opportunities for future employment. I am a self – motivated, confident and hardworking individual. I am enthusiastic about learning different skills and gaining new experiences and feel that I will contribute to university life dramatically. My aim is to study hard and pursue my career in this field as a manager in a prestigious hotel or set up my own business. I am going to achieve these goals by studying hard gaining the knowledge that I need.
